Steam Locomotive Heritage Association announces 2012 “Whistle-Stop” Santa Train Appearance

The Steam Locomotive Heritage Association is pleased to sponsor and announce the schedule and program details of the 2012 “Whistle-Stop” Santa Train Tour, coming to a town near you. Once again, the SOO 1003 steam locomotive will bring Santa Claus to towns throughout Wisconsin dazzling young kids and adults while collecting unwrapped gifts for the Toys for Tots Foundation. Accompanying Santa Claus will be special guests including players from the UW football team.

Built in 1913, SOO 1003 has traveled throughout Wisconsin the past fifteen years, thrilling thousands with the sights and sounds of a real historic steam locomotive. For the past two years, SOO 1003 has been under renovation and is now ready to make its first public appearance since November, 2010.

Other groups participating in this event include: Toys for Tots Organization, Marine Corps, UW Athletics and the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad.

Below are the program details including “Whistle-Stop” schedule for Saturday, November 3, 2012. The program will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Milton, WI and will make scheduled 20-minute stops between Milton and Middleton, WI. The program will conclude at 3:00 p.m. with its last stop in Middleton.

The event will be an opportunity for children of all ages to meet Santa Claus on-board an historic Milwaukee Road Caboose. All children and adults are asked to bring a new unwrapped gift to donate to under privileged children throughout Wisconsin for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation.

  • Equipment: SOO 1003 Steam Engine, Baggage cars, Refurbished Milwaukee Road Caboose
  • Route: Milton to Middleton, WI, 20 min stops at each station
  • Stations: Milton, Edgerton, Stoughton, McFarland, Madison and Middleton.
  • On-Board: Santa Claus, Marine Corps Representatives, Toys for Tots Director,
    University of Wisconsin football players and 1003 crew and uniformed conductor.
